PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – On November 14, 2022, Harold Bernard Gross, of Owings, entered a guilty plea in Calvert County Circuit Court to possession of fentanyl in large volume.

He received a mandatory prison sentence of 5 years without the possibility of parole.

The conviction resulted from the execution of a search warrant at Gross’ residence on July 14, 2022.  At that time, members of the Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit recovered 302 counterfeit oxycodone pills that had been manufactured using 36.5 grams of fentanyl.

Possession of more than 5 grams of fentanyl is considered a large volume under Maryland law.

Calvert County State’s Attorney Robert Harvey wishes to commend the Drug Enforcement Unit and Assistant State’s Attorney Lee Ann Bell for their outstanding work in this case.

Mr. Harvey stated, “In 2020, I issued a written policy requiring my attorneys to aggressively prosecute drug dealers and to seek incarceration upon conviction.  This policy has been consistently adhered to.  There are no sweetheart deals for drug dealers in Calvert County.”

  1. People don’t look at the bigger picture because they need the lords help bless him lord and as well thank Gid the police found this fentanyl and got it off the streets before it killed a bunch or people.

  2. I’m sorry my comment was so sloppy but I’m glad this drugs are off the streets and im glad the guy is getting the help he needs to learn not to do this again In the future.

  3. 1 gram of fentanyl can kill 300-500 people… so 36.5 grams can kill 10,950-18,250…. so you’re telling me that 5 YEARS? 5 YEARS is enough for the potential deaths of what could have been 10-20 thousand people… Our judicial system needs some serious help.

  4. No, he won’t be out in a year. Sentence is 5 years mandatory without parole. Personally, this lump of excrement deserves the needle. Worm food is his best and highest purpose on this planet.
