
SOLOMONS, Md. – July 10, 2026 – August at the Calvert Marine Museum offers a vibrant mix of music, cruises, family programs, and seasonal experiences for visitors of all ages. From the high‑energy Brothers Osborne performance on August 22 to hands‑on activities, lighthouse tours, fossil programs, and special early‑morning family events, the month is packed with opportunities to explore Southern Maryland’s natural and maritime heritage. Select Dates in August – Lore Oyster House
Explore the newly refurbished 1934 seafood packing house, located 0.6 miles south of the main campus on Solomons Island Road. Exhibits highlight oyster harvesting and processing in Southern Maryland. Free admission. See website for dates and hours.
Wednesdays through Sundays in August – Wm. B. Tennison Public Cruise | 2 p.m.
Enjoy a one-hour cruise aboard the historic Wm. B. Tennison. Capacity is 40 passengers; if full, a 3:10 p.m. cruise will run with a minimum of eight passengers. An additional 3:10 p.m. cruise will run on weekends. $9 adults; $5 children (ages 0–12).
Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays in August – Cove Point Lighthouse | 1–4 p.m.
Visit the grounds and Visitors Center to learn about the Chesapeake Bay’s oldest continuously operating lighthouse and enjoy views of the Calvert Cliffs. Free admission. No beach access.
Sundays, August 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 – Beyond the Displays: Artifact Stories | 1:30–2:30 p.m.
Join museum educator Lori to explore the museum’s artifacts, uncovering their origins and significance. Hear how World War II shaped Solomons and discover hidden details in the museum murals. Learn something new every tour. Included with museum admission.
Thursdays, August 6 & 13 – Sea Squirts | 10:15 and 11:15 a.m.
This month’s theme is Amazing Amphibians. Children 18 months to 3 years, with an adult, are invited to discover the museum together through music, stories, and special activities. Join us for story time and a craft, available while supplies last. Sessions are 25–40 minutes. Included with museum admission. Sign up at the Admissions Desk when you arrive. Friday, August 7- Family Fun Friday: Freestyle Friday! | 9-11 a.m.
Bring the family to the Calvert Marine Museum. Join us as we explore the museum and learn together! With a themed craft and activities, we are sure to have a blast. Summer Family Fun Friday events are designed for families with children ages 5 – 12. They are a chance to enjoy the museum and a special program with activities and crafts that begin before the museum is open to the public. Please keep in mind that this is not a drop-off program.
Friday, August 7 – First Fossil Friday! | 1–4:30 p.m.
Fossil hunters, bring your fossil finds from Calvert Cliffs or other local areas to be identified! This service is provided for free; however, admission fees apply for access to CMM exhibits.
Sunday, August 9 – Creature Feature | 10:15–11:15 a.m.
Come to the museum for the Monthly Mystery Creature Feature. Every second Sunday of the month, the CMM Education team will feature an animal in the museum lobby that is not normally on display. Learn about a new animal and discover the wonderful variety of creatures found in our local estuaries. Take-home educational coloring pages will be available.
Saturday, August 15 – Toy Boat Building | 1–4 p.m.
Make a toy boat from wood under the Corbin Nature Pavilion! Space and materials are limited. Visitors will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. For ages 5 and older. Sponsored by the Patuxent Small Craft Guild. Museum admission applies; in addition, a donation of $2 per boat is requested.
Thursdays, August 20 & 27 – Little Minnows | 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.

Saturday, August 22 – BROTHERS OBSBORNE Performs Live! | 7 p.m.

Multi-award-winning duo BROTHERS OSBORNE returns to Southern Maryland as hometown favorites. Raised in nearby Deale, John and TJ Osborne have earned 13 GRAMMY nominations and a 2022 GRAMMY Award for “Younger Me,” along with multiple CMA and ACM awards. Known for their genre-blending sound and electrifying performances, the duo will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their breakthrough album Pawn Shop in 2026.
