PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Officials from Calvert County sought to clarify the details on the Marley Run Recreation Area buffer construction project following last week’s Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) meeting.
Director of Parks and Recreation Bob Branham said the county received “several inquiries requesting clarification on the outcome of the motion and the status of the project.”
County Administrator Linda Turner added that the action taken at the July 21 meeting resulted in inquiries from the public, and staff sought an “administrative clarification” to make sure it was clear there were no additional changes to the amendment discussed at the July 21 meeting.
“We needed to clarify that, with the action taken, no change will be made to Marley Run Park,” Turner said.
At the July 21 meeting, the BOCC voted to adopt the buffer amendments related to the Marley Run Recreation Area construction project. This project will remove the 100-foot no-cut, no-clear buffer while maintaining the existing 35-foot setback.
Design services were procured from COA Barrett for $99,805. The balance of Marley Run Rec Area CIP-000136 is currently $1,000,195, and an additional $2,500,000 was requested in FY27 funding. This amount should cover construction costs.
The project was recommended back in February, and the amendment went through several versions and received public feedback. The July 21 meeting marked the end of the public comment period, and the BOCC voted on adopting the amendment.
The vote affirmed that Resolution No. 3-92 remains in effect without amendment. This action affirms that there will be no modifications to the existing buffer.
Additionally, the proposed improvement project has been deferred until a later date. In the meantime, routine field maintenance will continue to ensure the fields remain safe and available for recreational use.
