WALDORF, Md. — A man was airlifted to a trauma center Wednesday afternoon after suffering second-degree burns to his face in Waldorf, according to emergency dispatch.
Fire and EMS crews responded at approximately 2:15 p.m. on Aug. 19 to the 3700 block of Primrose Court for a reported burn injury.
Initial 911 information indicated the man told a caller that coolant from a vehicle had sprayed into his face. Dispatch indicated the coolant did not enter his eyes but made contact with his skin, causing a burning sensation.
Responders initially instructed the patient to continuously flush the affected area while emergency crews were en route.
After arriving at the scene, EMS personnel reported burns to the man’s face and requested additional medical support for pain management. Dispatch records later classified the injuries as second-degree burns to the face.
Emergency medical personnel consulted with Maryland’s statewide emergency medical coordination system, and air transport was approved.
The patient was transported by helicopter to MedStar Washington Hospital Center for further treatment, according to dispatch records.
The circumstances surrounding how the coolant was released were not immediately available.
