PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert County Public Schools (CCPS) officially adopted its FY27 budget on June 11 with minimal changes from the original draft proposed by Superintendent Dr. Marcus Newsome in February.
The FY27 budget totals $298,325,000. Chief Financial Officer Christine Jewett presented the final budget to the Board of Education (BOE), outlining each cost category and revenue stream. The budget is balanced, Jewett said, which is required by law.
The one significant change from Dr. Newsome’s draft budget is within revenues from state funding. The district received these numbers from the state in May, which showed a decrease in state revenue for CCPS of $185,790. The largest reduction in funding was in pre-K. According to Jewett, the slight decrease in state funding has been offset by the increased use of the district’s fund balance.
The Calvert Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) passed its FY27 county budget earlier this week, dedicating $169 million to CCPS.
“CCPS is grateful for their continued support of public education,” Jewett said.
The priorities of the unrestricted budget remain unchanged from the February draft — approximately $179 million is dedicated to salaries and wages, and Jewett pointed out that the district was meeting all contracts with employees.
More than $21 million is also allocated for the school construction fund, with funding from local and state sources, as well as grants.
The BOE passed the budget 5-0.
