DUNKIRK, Md. — A late-night traffic stop in Calvert County led to a drug arrest after deputies discovered suspected crack cocaine inside a vehicle following a K9 alert, according to court documents.
Gerald Calvin Creek Sr., 63, of Sunderland, is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance following the April 12, 2026 incident.
According to the statement of probable cause, a deputy was conducting patrol around 2:13 a.m. in the Dunkirk area when a vehicle with Virginia registration was observed traveling between Chesapeake Beach Road and Southern Maryland Boulevard. A traffic stop was later initiated near Solomons Island Road and Skinners Turn Road.
During the stop, deputies noted inconsistent statements from the occupants regarding their travel plans, prompting further investigation. A K9 unit was requested and conducted a scan of the vehicle, resulting in a positive alert for the presence of controlled dangerous substances.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a yellow capsule containing approximately one gram of suspected crack cocaine located near the rear seatbelt area, directly next to where Creek was seated as the sole rear passenger.
Authorities determined that Creek had access to the substance based on his proximity, and he was taken into custody and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center without incident.
Court records show Creek was later released on his own recognizance.
A trial is set for June 3, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
Under Maryland law, possession of a controlled dangerous substance carries a maximum penalty of up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000.
