HUGHESVILLE, Md. — A single-vehicle accident left a utility pole damaged and wires down across Burnt Store Road on Monday morning, prompting an emergency response and road closure.

The crash occurred on January 20, 2025, around 3:45 a.m. near the intersection of Burnt Store Road and Kaverton Street. Authorities reported that the vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with a utility pole, causing wires to fall onto the street.

Fire and rescue crews arrived at the scene to find the driver, a man, who was evaluated by EMS but declined further medical treatment.

SMECO was called to repair the damaged pole and clear the fallen wires. Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, though officials have warned that black ice may have been a contributing factor due to freezing temperatures overnight.

Burnt Store Road remains closed in the area of Kaverton Street as utility crews work to complete repairs. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes until the roadway is reopened.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
