PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – Currently across the United States, schools are dealing with a social media post on TikTok that threatens acts of school violence on Friday, December 17. We have received many inquiries about the social media post, and some other isolated threats have also recently been reported because of this unfortunate trend. Calvert County Public School Administrators, Safety Advocates, and our law enforcement partners take all threats very seriously. While there appears to be no credibility to any threats currently, we remain in contact with our law enforcement partners, as we do on a regular basis. All reports received at our schools are immediately investigated in conjunction with law enforcement according to Calvert County Public Schools policies and procedures. When a threat is identified, the appropriate school staff and/or the Calvert County Sherriff’s Office will be dispatched to the source residence.
All schools will continue to operate on normal schedules. We continue to encourage students, staff, and families that if you see something, you say something. Please discuss any concerns with your student(s) and stress the importance of reporting information rather than spreading it to others. Take this opportunity to talk with your student about the seriousness of making or perpetuating threats and the resulting consequences of that type of behavior. Encourage students to use social media in a responsible manner, and encourage them to speak with you, a trusted adult at school, or the School Resource Officer (SRO), if they see or hear something of concern. The safety of students and staff is our highest priority.
