The Calvert County Mentoring Partnership is pleased to be a part of National Mentoring Month 2009, a month-long campaign dedicated to recruiting caring adult mentors for Americaโ€™s youth. Research has shown that mentorship can play a powerful role in reducing drug abuse and youth violence, while greatly enhancing a young personโ€™s prospects for leading a healthy and productive life.

The Calvert County Mentoring Partnership is supporting this national effort by hosting its Fourth Annual Mentoring Month Breakfast on Thursday, Jan. 15 at the SpringHill Suites Marriott in Prince Frederick, from 8 a.m.ย to 10 a.m. Led by Honorary Chair, Brenda Tyrrell, thisย free networking event will feature highlights from successful mentoring programs in our community, testimonials from local mentors making a difference and information on how to get involved. Individuals, businesses, government agencies, schools, faith communities and local nonprofit organizations all can play a part in increasing the number of mentors in Calvert County and assuring a better future for our young people.

โ€œThere are so many people out there who have considered becoming mentors. I want to encourage those folks to seize this opportunity to learn about the variety of mentoring opportunities available in our community,โ€ says Lorraine Joyner, Chair of the Calvert County Mentoring Partnership.
