MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — The playground at Chaptico Park has reopened following a comprehensive renovation, offering families in St. Mary’s County an enhanced recreational space.

The St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks Department announced the completion of the project on April 23, 2025, inviting the community to experience the updated amenities. The playground, situated within the 250-acre Chaptico Park, now features modern equipment designed to provide a safe and engaging environment for children.

Chaptico Park, established in 2005, is located at 26600 Budds Creek Road in Mechanicsville. In addition to the playground, the park offers a variety of facilities, including multi-sport fields, hiking trails, and a BMX dirt track operated by SOMD BMX, a local nonprofit volunteer organization sanctioned by USA BMX.

The renovation aligns with the county’s ongoing efforts to enhance public recreational spaces, as outlined in the 2022 Land Preservation, Parks, and Recreation Plan. The plan emphasizes the importance of investing in existing assets to improve community amenities.
