LA PLATA, Md. — The Charles County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has received approval for a $46,000 budget amendment to support two upcoming training programs. The funding, approved at the Charles County Commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, will help deputies sharpen their skills through advanced, scenario-based instruction designed to improve readiness, enhance officer safety and ensure the community is better protected during high-risk incidents.
Most of the funding will support a mandated Emergency Support Team (EST) training through Asymmetric Solutions, a private provider with facilities nationwide. The company manages more than 3,500 acres of training grounds that include on-site housing, catering and DOD/ATF-approved weapons and explosives storage. Its instructors are combat-decorated veterans of elite military and law enforcement units — including Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, Marine Raiders and SWAT officers — who bring real-world operational experience to every course. Training emphasizes realistic, full-mission scenarios designed to ensure participants are better prepared for complex emergencies.

The five-day program delivers tactical, individual, specialty and medical-based instruction designed to enhance the preparedness and effectiveness of CCSO’s EST personnel. Modules include:
- Counter Ambush/Vehicle Defense
- Small Arms (Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun)
- Basic and Advanced SWAT (five days each)
- Mission Planning and Breaching
- Hostage Rescue and Active Shooter Response
- Low Light/No Light Operations
- Dignitary Protection and Contact Combat
- Advanced Medical Training (AMT) and TCCC
- Specialized options such as Sniper, Explosive Breaching and Surveillance
Maryland regulations require special tactical response teams to complete a commission-approved initial course of at least 40 hours, with written and practical evaluations, and to continue training with a minimum of 24 hours each quarter and a 40-hour team exercise every year to remain eligible for deployment.
By completing the program, CCSO officials said the EST will be better prepared to respond to critical incidents, improve team coordination under stress and ensure compliance with state and federal standards for specialized response units.

In addition, CCSO will send representatives to the MAGLOCLEN Narcotics and Information Sharing Conference in Ocean City, Maryland. The regional event, scheduled for Sept. 29–Oct. 2, 2025, at the Grand Hotel Boardwalk and Beach Resort, is designed to strengthen cooperation among agencies by sharing intelligence, highlighting emerging drug-trafficking trends and providing training on investigative techniques. The conference also promotes officer safety and wellness while encouraging collaboration on multi-jurisdictional cases.

Officials said the amendment aligns with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Use of Shared Funds program under equitable-sharing guidelines and complies with County Code § 164-4, which authorizes the use of forfeiture funds for law enforcement training.
The full budget amendment is available through the county’s legislative records, and the Sept. 9 meeting can be viewed on CCGTV.
