Charles County Sheriff Rex W. Coffey is pleased to announce that the Charles County Sheriffโs Office is utilizing CrimeReports.com โ a Web-based software program that helps law enforcement agencies put crime data in the hands of the community. With just the click of a mouse, members of the community can access current data about criminal activity that occurred in their neighborhood. The data is downloaded to CrimeReports within 24 hours of a criminal event.
โKeeping our residents informed about criminal activity is a priority for me,” said Sheriff Coffey. “This is a great tool that provides valuable information with near real time data and itโs easy to use.โ
Captain Dave Saunders, Commander of the Information Services Division, said that utilizing CrimeReports makes sense. โAlthough crime statistics are available on the CCSO web page, they are broken down by calls for service and updated on a monthly basis. Joining CrimeReports enhances our existing methods of sharing time sensitive and critical information with members of our community. Itโs timely and itโs free to the public.โ
To use the crime mapping program, go to the Charles County Sheriffโs Office web page at www.ccso.us and click on the crime mapping link. Enter an address and follow the prompts.ย Within minutes, information regarding criminal activity will appear on the screen. โRaising awareness about criminal activity helps people improve the safety of their families, friends and property,โ said Sheriff Coffey. ย
Questions regarding crimes that appear on the crime mapping link should be directed to the Commander of the District in which the crime occurred. For more information, contact the Media Relations Office at (301) 609-6557.
