It is by the authority of Commissioner President Reuben B. Collins, II, Esq., that the Charles County flag shall be lowered at half-staff as a mark of respect for the memory of Edward Herbert McBride who served over 50 years at the Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department.
Edward Herbert McBride, 86, of Nanjemoy, MD, passed away on May 17.
McBride was also a U.S. Marine who fought in the Korean War, according to a Charles County press release. The press release also noted that McBride started as a volunteer firefighter at Nanjemoy VFD and worked through the ranks to President.
“(I) served in the USMC (United States Marine Corp) from October of 1952 through 1956,” McBride said in a social media post on July 24, 2016.
He said he was a part of the “Second Division 6 Battalion Easy Company.”
“(My) last duty station was the Marine Barracks at Indian Head,” his post read in part. He said the doctor discharged him from the Marines and he joined “The New Civilian Guard Force.”
It was then that he was assigned to work at the Naval Research Laboratory at Washington, D.C. until he retired January 31, 1988 after 35 years of service to the country, according to information on McBride’s social media.
Below is a photo from McBride’s social media where he said he was a ‘Marine Base in North Carolina” with another Marine named Rick from Pennsylvania. He added that Rick was in Second Division in Fox Company. McBride is pictured on the right.
