Barstow, MD โ€“ The Seventh annual Calvert Idol Contest at the 2016 Calvert County Fair proved to be moonglow on a foggy evening. During a fair, plagued by gloomy weather, the eight contestants vying to attain the top prize gave well-received performances.

The 2016 winner is Chasity Jones of Hughesville, a student at College of Southern Maryland. First runner-up was Breia Mason while finishing third was Avion Keemer. The contest sponsor, G.H. Clark Contractors, awarded Jones $1,000; Mason $500 and Keemer $300.

The other five finalists were Joshua Wills, Andaysia Holland, Trinity Fowler, Aaron Fowler and Alexy Fitzmyer. Those five are allowed to compete in next yearโ€™s contest.

โ€œIt will always be a part of us,โ€ said Fitzmyer of the bonding experience the contestants had offstage while awaiting to perform. Each contestant came out on stage, performed a song and received comments from the judges. This process was done twice.

The fairโ€™s headline performer, magician/comedian Reggie Rice, emceed the contest.

โ€œYou all have done an amazing job,โ€ said Rice, who performed his own act prior to the announcement of the winners.

Prior to the competition, the local duo Jimmies Corner entertained the crowd.
