CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — Towns all over Southern Maryland are adding events to the America250 and Maryland250 slate of celebrations.
The latest update is from Chesapeake Beach, which just announced The George W. Owings III Stars and Stripes event on Saturday, May 23. The event will be split into two parts, a ceremony honoring the day’s theme, followed by a family fun day at Kellam’s Field.
The theme of the event is “a legacy of sacrifice.” The festivities will begin with a ceremony at 10 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park to honor, remember, and celebrate the many veterans in our history and community. Attendees are invited to a family fun day at Kellam’s Field from noon to 2 p.m., featuring food catered by Traders, live music from the Ryan Forrester Band, a rock climbing wall, and more.
In the Facebook post announcing the event, the town invited residents to “come be a part of a meaningful morning and joyful afternoon as we honor the past and celebrate together as a community.”
America250 and Maryland250 are part of the nationwide and statewide efforts to honor and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Local communities across the state are joining in to host events that commemorate our history and elevate local heroes and events.
Last month, for example, the Piney Point Museum hosted its Rebels and Redcoats event to showcase the Battle of St. George Island, the only Revolutionary War battle fought in Maryland.
You can see a full list of Calvert250 events online. The list is being updated as more events are added.
