Charles County Childrenโ€™s Aid Society was running out of space. So the 75-year-old non-profit organization did what it has always done: they enlisted the help of the community. With a $100,000 bond bill from the Maryland General Assembly, thanks to the Southern Maryland Delegation, the organization raised the rest.

According to their website http://childrens-aid-society.org/Homepage.html โ€œThe mission of the Charles County Children’s Aid Society, Inc.,ย a 501 (c) (3) non-profit human service agency, is to improve the quality of life for struggling Charles County familiesย with children under age 18 by providing them with the basic necessities of life including, but not limited to, clothing, food, rent/mortgage &ย utilityย assistance, educational classes, recreational activities and holiday assistance.

ย

According to board member Earle Knapp, the master of ceremonies at a ribbon cutting on Wednesday, September 4, the organization served more than 25,000 children and their families in the past year. With those kinds of numbers itโ€™s easy to see why more space is needed at their building on Huntington Circle in St. Charles..

ย

Attendees at the ribbon cutting packed the empty, but soon to be filled space, to hear speakers praise the work of the organization, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D: 5th) said, โ€œThis is Godโ€™s work.โ€ ย Hoyer presented a flag flown over the U.S. Capital to Knapp and Executive Director Maria Bryan.
