Last month seventh grade students from Kings Christian Academy in Callaway participated in their annual Serve-a-thon.

Students swarmed around a St. Inigoes home to lend a hand in the garden, inside the house, wash the vehicles – including a county school bus โ€“ and even the family dogs.

Each year the academy selects a family or individual as recipient of their help. This year Anna, of St. Inigoes, was surprised to find her family had been chosen. Anna drives a St. Maryโ€™s County School bus, and lives with her husband and son, Philip. โ€œI had no idea they were going to do this,โ€ she told The Bay Net. โ€œThey usually go to help older folk.โ€

In recent years Annaโ€™s husband has undergone multiple surgeries which limit how much activity he is able to take on in the yard and at home. Earlier this year Annaโ€™s mother came to live with them and the family cared for her until she passed away.

โ€œThose seventh-graders really helped,โ€ said Anna.
