La Plata, MD – At about 12:48 a.m. on Feb. 25 seven fire departments responded to the First Baptist Church of La Plata for the report of a fire.
Upon arrival to the church located at 9070 Hawthorne Road, the La Plata, Bel Alton, Bryans Road, Indian Head, Marbury, Potomac Heights, and Waldorf Volunteer Fire Departments discovered the 40×20 garage in flames.
A passerby discovered the fire. It took over four dozen firefighters 45 minutes to control the fire.
Damage is estimated at a total of $150,000. The cause of the fire is unknown.
