LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — A Hollywood woman is facing multiple drug possession and paraphernalia charges after a traffic stop in Lexington Park led deputies to allegedly find suspected cocaine, fentanyl and drug-smoking devices inside a purse.
Karmyn Elizabeth Hoffman, 20, was charged with three counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to charging documents, a St. Mary’s County sheriff’s deputy was conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Pegg Road and Ronald Drive on Aug. 8 when he saw a green 2003 Honda CR-V traveling along Pegg Road with an expired registration plate.
The deputy stopped the vehicle near Pegg Road and Spring Valley Drive.
Hoffman was identified as the front-seat passenger. During the stop, another deputy and a police K-9 responded and conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle.
The K-9 allegedly alerted to the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, giving deputies probable cause to search the vehicle.
During the search, deputies reported finding a dark-colored purse on the front passenger seat where Hoffman had been sitting.
Inside the purse, investigators allegedly found a cut plastic straw containing white residue suspected to be cocaine, a glass smoking device and a metal smoking device containing burnt residue suspected to be crack cocaine.
Deputies also reported finding a folded $1 bill containing a fine white powder suspected to be fentanyl, along with a folded piece of paper containing another white powder suspected to be cocaine.
Charging documents state the purse also contained a prescription medication bottle bearing Hoffman’s name, which investigators cited as evidence linking the purse to her.
Hoffman was charged with possession of the suspected controlled substances and paraphernalia.
She was released on a $250 unsecured personal bond.
A trial is set for Sept. 22 in St. Mary’s District Court.
