Leonardtown, MD — The St. Mary’s County Board of Education has honored a church and its pastors for their contributions to the school system. The board at its Oct. 28 meeting recognized Church Without Walls and Pastors Dennit and Mary Goodwin.

According to Executive Director of Supplemental School Programs Kelly Hall, “Church Without Walls has made numerous contributions to St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS). Because of their generosity, SMCPS has been able to distribute additional supplies and materials for at-risk students and also to finance special activities and events which directly impact them.”

Among the church’s contributions, Hall said, were Christmas gifts for students and for the shoe fund. They have also supported Lunch and Learn, Title I Homeless support systems, and new clothing and school supplies.

Hall said Church Without Walls also connected NFL sportscaster James “JB” Brown with the school system. He has visited several school programs and given “motivational speeches about the value of hard work, persistence and getting a good education,” according to Hall.

Also attending the ceremony was Pastor Dennit Goodwin, Sr.’s son Pastor Dennit Goodwin, Jr. The three posed for pictures with the school board after the presentation.
