Sheriff Timothy K. Cameron congratulates the graduates of the St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office Fall 2012 Citizens Academy Class who completed their eight-week course on November 15th.
The Sheriffโs Office Citizen Academy is designed to give citizens an inside look into the Sheriffโs Office day-to-day operation.ย Academy students learn exciting facts about the Sheriffโs Office.ย The classes are broken down weekly by Sheriffโs Office Divisions and include:
First Class
Meet the top administrators of the Sheriffโs Office and learn the goals and objectives of the Citizens Academy Program. The Special Operations Division will showcase all of their specialty vehicles such as our Mobile Command Center and brief you on the many aspects of the division. Receive an overview of the law enforcement accreditation process followed by the Office of Professional Responsibilities and conclude with a tour of our Headquarters facility.
Second Class
Activities include a simulated DUI course followed by Alcohol Enforcement, Traffic Safety, and Accident Reconstruction presentations.
Third Class
Begins with a K-9 demonstration followed by Patrol Deputies and a tour of the Emergency Communications Center where you will listen to actual 911 calls.
Fourth Class
Take a field trip to the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy and receive a tour of the facility.ย While gaining insight on recruit training, you will have an opportunity to participate in several simulated training exercises.
Fifth Class
Meet Narcotics Officers and learn about the types of drugs and current trends. Emergency Services Team (SWAT) members will make their entrance during the second hour brining all the latest tactical gear and Hostage Negotiators will conclude with an overview of the team and discuss scenarios such as barricades.
