Salvo Sports, an Indonesian clothing company, issued an apology on March 8, International Women’s Day, for washing instructions on their clothing that has been deemed sexist by many.ย

The washing instructions state “Give it to your woman, it’s her job.”

This label has received criticism on social media by both men and women.ย

However, not everyone is critical of this tag.

Salvo Sports tweeted several times March 9 about how they will respond to this issue.

“We ensure that we will replace our editorial on washing labels that reported offending gender issues . The replacement will be fulfilled at the latest at the time of the kick off April 4 2015. ย For products that are already in circulation , we [will] provide a replacement washing label on the jersey if desired. Once again we apologize for the inconvenience. That is all and thank you.”

Salvo Sports also tweeted about the misinterpretation.

The message is simply, instead of washing it in the wrong way, you might as well give it to a lady because they are more capable. There is no intention to humiliate women. In contrast [we want to tell the men] learn from women how to take care of clothes. Men are incompetent and do not know how to care for their own clothes and women are more familiar and experienced in the matter.”
