The U.S. Coast Guard rescued five people that were stranded on a disabled vessel near St. George Island, Md., in the Potomac River Sunday.
Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders were notified by Thomas Farrell, the owner/operator of a 20-foot recreational boat, via marine-band radio at 7:10 a.m., reporting that he and four others were stranded on a disabled vessel.
A 25-foot response boat crew from Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes, Md., arrived on scene at 7:30 a.m., and towed the boat and crew to a marina on St. George Island.
There were no reports of injuries.
The Coast Guard urges mariners to outfit their boat with a functioning marine-band radio, using channel 16 on a marine-band radioย is the most reliable way to communicate a distress to search and rescue personnel in the event of an emergency while on the water.
