Charles County Commissioner President Candice Quinn Kelly is part of a panel along with County Executives Isiah Leggett of Montgomery County, Ken Ulman of Howard County, and Rushern Baker of Prince George’s County will meet in Annapolis from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12 for the Maryland Transportation Summit.ย  The summit will emphasize the urgent need for investment in transportation projects statewide. Commissioner Vice President Reuben B. Collins, II (District 3), Jason Groth from Charles County Department of Planning and Growth Management and other elected officials, policy makers and business leaders from across Maryland’s Baltimore-Washington region will also be in attendance.ย 

The summit will bring together a variety of stakeholders from the Baltimore-Washington region united on the need to increase transportation funding. Among the groups that will be represented are chambers of commerce, boards of trade, labor, elected officials and community organizations. The coalition has strong participation from Charles, Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Howard counties as well as Baltimore City and other jurisdictions.

The county leaders are scheduled to participate in a discussion at 11 a.m. They will speak about the urgency of increasing transportation funding in 2013 and what is at stake in their communities if increased funding is not secured.

“The Charles County Commissioners are committed to developing a transportation corridor in Charles County that will improve access and transit services for our citizens,” said Commissioner President Candice Quinn Kelly.ย  “It is important that Charles County, along with our neighboring counties, is part of this summit.”
