La Plata, MD – The Charles County Sheriff’s Office reported Thursday, March 12 court security officers assigned to the Charles County Courthouse in La Plata observed a man assault another man outside the entrance of the courthouse. The incident occurred shortly after 9 a.m.
The officers went to investigate and observed the 6 foot’4, 245-pound suspect yelling and screaming.
Officers gave several commands for the suspect to surrender, but he refused. One officer attempted to approach the man, but the suspect suddenly grabbed the officer’s arm and threw him to the ground, dislocating the officer’s shoulder.
Officers utilized an electric stun device and were eventually able to subdue the man who was still fighting.
The unidentified suspect, 39, was transported to a hospital for an evaluation. He did not have any apparent injuries.
The investigation is being conducted by Cpl. Shayne Stanley.
