Leonardtown, Md.– On August 4, at 11 a.m., St. Mary’s County Government and St. Mary’s County Public Schools hosted the First Responders Drone Symposium. The event took place at Capt. Walter F. Duke Elementary School in Leonardtown.

The main effort of this event is to show the county and the first reponders what drones are capable of and how they can help out. 

On hand were county commissioners Randy Guy, John O’Connor and Todd Morgan. All three had positive things to mention about drones. State Delegate Deb Rey also attended the event.

“Three aspects in the community drones can be helpful, first economic development, second create new volunteer positions, and lastly assist search and rescue mission to help save lives,” Said O’Connor. 

Local volunteer fire department officials and the St. Mary’s County Sheriffs Office were also in attendance to see how these drones can assist them in their difficult jobs. 

“This event is a great introduction for the community to better understand drone technology.” Said Morgan.
