Deputy State Fire Marshals are continuing with their investigation into what caused a one-alarm mobile home fire which injured a couple living in the home along with three firefighters. The March 25,ย 8:15 p.m. blaze destroyed a 14โ by 70โ mobile homeย in theย 45800 block ofย JD Court.
Investigators learned neighbors discovered the fire and called 9-1-1 which brought approximately fifty-firefighters from the Bay District, Valley Lee, Seventh District, Hollywood, and Patuxent River fire companies to the scene.
Julia Yannayon, 49 years of age and an unidentified white male were pulled from the burning trailer by firefighters. The couple was discovered in a bedroom, after attempting to escape the blaze andย were found not breathing. Yannayon was resuscitated on the scene. Both were flown by Maryland State Police Aviation to Washington Hospital Center where they are listed in critical condition. Three firefighters were injured, two of which were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for knee injuries as a result of falling through the floor.
Bay District Fire Chief, Wayne Johnson was very proud of the rescue/life savingย efforts that took place. “The EMS and fire crews did a fantastic job.”
The fire caused estimated $50,000 inย damage to the home and to its contents.
Deputy State Fire Marshals have determined the fire started in the living room of the mobile home but the cause for the fire remains under investigation.
