During the early evening hours of Monday May 7, an SUV pulling a U-Haul trailer ran into the back of an ambulance on Rt. 235 near Pier 1 Imports.
The ambulance involved was no. 388 out of Lexington Park. It was returning from St. Mary’s Hospital after a call, and had no patients aboard at the time.
The ambulance had been stopped at a red light at the intersection of Rt. 235 and First Colony Blvd. when it was hit from behind.
Hollywood and Lexington Park Rescue Squads responded to the scene of the crash to assist.
The driver of the SUV involved was flown out to Washington Hospital Center for medical treatment – classified Priority 1. The ambulance crew were checked out at the scene.
St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash. An official release about this accident is still pending at the time of this report. The Bay Net will bring you further information as it becomes available.
