STRUCTURE FIRE IN MARYLAND

ST. LEONARD, Md. — Firefighters responded to a house fire in St. Leonard late Saturday morning after smoke and flames were reported coming from the second floor of a two-story home.

The fire was reported around 11:15 a.m. on Aug. 29, 2026, at a residence in the 6000 block of Quarles Road.

Crews arriving at the scene reported smoke and fire showing from the second floor of the single-family home.

Initial information indicated the fire was located in a second-floor bedroom. Four cats were also reported to still be inside the home, although they were not believed to be in the room where the fire began.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze and began checking the home for any extension into surrounding areas.

Motorists were asked to avoid the area while emergency crews remained on scene.

No injuries were immediately reported.
