maryland barn fire

OWINGS, Md. — Firefighters responded Wednesday morning to a large barn fire in Owings after a caller reported an abandoned agricultural building was burning with smoke and flames visible.

The fire was reported around 7:35 a.m. June 3, 2026, in the 8900 block of Lightning Lane in the Cross Point area of Owings.

The fire involved a single-level barn or agricultural building. The caller reported the structure was fully involved, with no one trapped inside and no injuries reported.

Crews arrived to find a 75-by-75-foot barn fully engulfed. The structure had already burned to the ground by the time firefighters reached the scene. Crews operated in defensive mode. They worked quickly to bring the blaze under control.

Multiple fire and emergency units were dispatched to the incident, including crews from Calvert County and surrounding jurisdictions.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal was notified to continue the investigation into the cause of the fire.
