LA PLATA, Md. — A 76-year-old school crossing guard was injured Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, when she was struck by a vehicle in a school zone near La Plata High School.

The collision was reported at about 7:06 a.m. in the 6000 block of Radio Station Road. A 911 call reported the woman was hit by a Nissan Altima and suffered a possible fracture to her left leg. A short time later, EMS reported she could not feel her left leg. The driver remained on the scene.

Radio Station Road was shut down between Laurel Springs Park and Box Elder while first responders worked at the scene and shifted operations into a nearby parking area. The roadway was gradually reopened after lanes were cleared.

The woman was transported to UM Charles Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Police continue to investigate the collision.
