St. Maryโ€™s County will be getting its first Dairy Queen. The St. Maryโ€™s County Planning Commission on Monday approved the concept plan for a 2,460 square-foot Dairy Queen on MD 5 in Charlotte Hall. The fast-food restaurant will be on the site of the BP gas station next to McDonaldโ€™s. That gas station will be demolished but the car wash to the rear will remain.

Burch Oil Company will be the franchisee for the Dairy Queen according to builder John Parlett of CMI, Inc. They currently own the ground lease for the 1.85 acre property. Parlett told the planners that the design had been revised slightly from the standard DQ design to add more stone treatment along the doorways and around the bottom.

The planners had no problems with the design and approved the concept by unanimous vote. Parlett said construction is expected to begin later this year after final regulatory approvals are received.
