SOUTHERN MARYLAND — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for Southern Maryland and much of the state until 11 p.m. Sunday, with damaging winds and large hail possible.
The National Weather Service and Storm Prediction Center issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 335 on June 14, 2026, covering Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties, along with much of central and western Maryland.
The watch also includes Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Cecil, Frederick, Garrett, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s and Washington counties, as well as Baltimore City.
Forecasters said scattered thunderstorms are likely Sunday afternoon and evening. Some storms may become severe, with the main threats including damaging wind gusts and large hail.
The hazardous weather outlook covers the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay, the Tidal Potomac River, the I-95 corridor through central Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.
Skywarn has been activated.
Residents should monitor weather alerts, secure loose outdoor items and be prepared to move indoors quickly if storms approach. Drivers should watch for heavy rain, reduced visibility, ponding on roads and downed branches or power lines.
Scattered severe thunderstorms are also possible Thursday afternoon and evening, according to the outlook.
