Prince Frederick, MD – Calvert High School (CHS) Principal Steve Lucas was ready to officially begin his new assignment Monday, Aug. 29 by greeting the schoolโ€™s students as they arrived after 10 weeks of liberty. Lucas, who was a vice principal at Huntingtown High last year, is one of Calvert County Public Schoolsโ€™ (CCPS) eight new principalsโ€”five first-timers, two with new assignments and one hired from St. Maryโ€™s County.

In addition to Lucas, the new CCPS principals areโ€”Marcie Hough, Calvert Country School; Michelle Ward, Barstow Elementary; Pam Kasulke, Sunderland Elementary; Rebecca Bowen, Mill Creek Middle School; Charles Treft, Mount Harmony Elementary; Karen Vogel, Patuxent/Appeal Elementary Campus; and Stephan Williams, Northern High.

Also on hand at CHS for the arrival of students was CCPS Superintendent of Schools Dr. Daniel Curry, who told The BayNet he knows that students might be a bit daunted by the start of another school year, by the middle of the day โ€œit will be like they never were away.โ€

For Calvertโ€™s teachers, the 2016-2017 school year begins with the news the Calvert County Board of Education and Calvert Education Association have tentatively agreed on a new four-year contract. The negotiations have yielded promises of step increases, pay step restoration and a cost of living adjustment.

The contract needs to be approved by CEA members before it can be officially approved.

Another change the new school year brings to CCPS is a revised look to the school systemโ€™s web site, which can be seen by clicking here.

You will find bus routes on the CCPS web site.
