December 2025 Public Meetings And Hearings Across Southern Maryland

SOUTHERN MARYLAND — Local governments and school systems in Charles, Calvert and St. Mary’s counties have released their early December public-meeting schedules, giving residents opportunities to track community planning, zoning, transportation, education issues and county operations. Additional notices will be posted as agendas are finalized throughout the month.

Calvert County

Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, 10 a.m. — The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners will hold its regular meeting at the County Administration Building in Prince Frederick. Agenda and meeting documents are available here.

Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, 9 a.m. — The Calvert County Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing at the Chesapeake Hearing Room, County Administration Building, 150 Main St., Prince Frederick.

  • Scheduled cases include a request from Anthony Olekson of COA Barrett, LLC, on behalf of the Main Street Development Partnership, seeking variances for impacts to a wetland stream buffer to construct 24 townhomes and one commercial office building at 305 and 445 Main St., Prince Frederick (Tax Map 24, Parcels 429 and 431), zoned Town Center.

Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, 6–9 p.m. — The Calvert County Board of Education will meet to discuss budget priorities. The agenda has not yet been posted and will be updated once released.

Charles County

Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, 6 p.m. — The Charles County Planning Commission will hold a hybrid public meeting to review multiple items, including Parklands Neighborhood, Revision #3 (PLREV-250002). Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, 9 a.m. — The Board of Charles County Commissioners will hold its regular session at the Charles County Government Building in La Plata. The agenda includes briefings and action items, including:

Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2025, 6:30 p.m. — The Charles County Farm Bureau will hold a special meeting at 4230 Ray Drive, La Plata. The session will address concerns raised after recent actions by the county’s Department of Planning and Growth Management involving a local farming family, as well as issues tied to the ongoing comprehensive plan update. Discussion topics include code violations, boundary issues, tier designations and potential policy changes affecting agricultural properties.

Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, 5:30–7 p.m. — Charles County Recreation, Parks & Tourism will host a community meeting on field permitting at the Waldorf Senior & Recreational Center. Residents may offer feedback on permitting processes for athletic fields and activity spaces at Recreation, Parks & Tourism and Board of Education sites.

Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025 —Charles County Public Schools will hold its regular monthly meeting at 12 p.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The agenda has not yet been published and will be updated once released.

Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025, 6 p.m. — The Charles County Board of Commissioners will hold a Joint Town Hall Meeting for District 4 at St. Charles High School, 5305 Piney Church Road, Waldorf. Questions submitted by Dec. 1 will receive written responses in the official town hall agenda.

Maryland Transit Administration will host a Southern Maryland Rapid Transit (SMRT) open house at Pareik at Brandywine, 16100 Cadillac Drive, Brandywine.

  • Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, 6–8 p.m. — SMRT open house for Charles County at the Hilton Garden Inn, 10385 O’Donnell Place, Waldorf.

St. Mary’s County

Monday, Dec. 1, 2025, 6 p.m. — The St. Mary’s County Planning Commission will receive two presentations related to the St. Mary’s 2050 Comprehensive Plan:

Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, 4:15 p.m. & 4:30 p.m. — The Leonardtown Town Council will meet at 4 p.m. and will hold two public hearings at 4:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to receive feedback on two annexation petitions. One proposal involves potential commercial development along Route 5; the other would bring in property off Cedar Lane Road that is expected to develop as single-family homes, townhomes and apartments.

Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025, 9 a.m.–12 p.m. — The St. Mary’s County Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting. The agenda has not yet been posted and will be updated once released.

St. Mary’s County Public Schools Community Survey #2, open now through Dec. 5, 2025, is part of the Facility Utilization and School Boundary Study. The survey asks for feedback on grade-span options. The conversation will continue at the Board of Education Work Session on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025.
