Calvert County Deputy Cameron Chase Honored As Hometown Hero At Blue Crabs Game

WALDORF, Md. — Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Cameron Chase received recognition as a 2026 Hometown Hero during a Southern Maryland Blue Crabs game on Aug. 14.

The Blue Crabs hosted Hometown Heroes Night at Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf. The event recognized first responders, teachers and community leaders from across Southern Maryland.

As part of the ceremony, Chase took the field and threw one of the ceremonial first pitches before the Blue Crabs faced the Lexington Legends.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office later highlighted the honor and praised Chase for his work in the community.

“Thank you Deputy Chase for your unwavering dedication to the Southern Maryland community and for going above and beyond to serve and protect,” the agency wrote.

Recognition Beyond The Ballpark

The Hometown Hero honor adds to a growing list of recognitions for Chase.

Earlier this year, the American Legion named Chase its 2025 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for Southern Maryland District 6. He also earned the same honor for the Southern Maryland Region.

Officials recognized Chase during a May 9 meeting at Harry White Wilmer American Legion Post 85 in La Plata.

Chase joined the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy recruit before taking the oath of office in April 2024.

He graduated later that month from the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy’s Police Entrance Level Training Program Session 53.

The academy trains law enforcement recruits from agencies throughout the region, including Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties.

Chase has also completed specialized training during his time with the department. The sheriff’s office previously announced that he completed a three-week Special Weapons and Tactics school.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Special Operations Division conducted the training.

A Winning Night In Waldorf

The Blue Crabs also gave fans plenty to celebrate on the field.

Southern Maryland defeated Lexington 4-2 during the Aug. 14 game.

Starting pitcher Jason Savacool opened the game with four no-hit innings. Ezequiel Pagan later added a solo home run as Southern Maryland secured the victory.

The team also included postgame fireworks as part of Hometown Heroes Night.

For Chase, however, the night carried significance beyond the final score.

The ceremony placed his service in front of a Southern Maryland crowd and continued a year of public recognition for the young deputy.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office said it was proud to see one of its own honored and thanked Chase for his continued service to the community.
