A residential development in Prince Frederick which was the subject of controversy nearly a decade ago is again in the spotlight due to an unfinished project.

ย

The subdivision, Prince Frederick Crossing, was originally called Prince Frederick Woods. After an incident in which workers inadvertently disturbed wetlands near Parkers Creek the name was changed. In 2003, the Calvert County Planning Commission voted to rescind its approval of the project due to the wetlands incident. After several nights of public hearings that year, the project received a revised okโ€”provided the developer build a portion of the Prince Frederick Loop Road through the development.

ย

Now, the developer, Anthony C. Williams claims he has upheld his end of the agreement, which he contends has expired.

ย

Earlier this month the planning commission conducted a special, open meeting with Williams and his attorney, Edward C. Gibbs Jr., in an effort to resolve the situation.ย Carolyn McHugh, the newest member of the planning commission, inquired what the panel was being asked to do.ย โ€œWe are being asked to do something to get this off the books,โ€ said John Yacovelle, the planning ย  commissionโ€™s attorney.

ย

โ€œWe are here in the spirit of cooperation,โ€ said Gibbs. โ€œItโ€™s been a long process, itโ€™s been slow. There have been a lot of difficulties to go around. As we sit here today, we have no agreement. It has expired.โ€ย Williams claims he has spent approximately $3.1 million to try to accommodate the county, which he further claimed, made him wait for two years. โ€œYou canโ€™t keep starting and stopping, you got to finish,โ€ said Williams of the roadwork that got held up for two years.
