A 55-year-old double amputee was killed in a house fire this morning on Butler Road in Newburg.
The Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office reports the fire started downstairs in the house, where the victimโs bedroom was. A fire alarm woke up the manโs wife sleeping upstairs, Deputy State Fire Marshal Joseph Zurolo told the Baltimore Sun.
The woman received serious burns when she unsuccessfully attempted to rescue her husband. The coupleโs daughter and two grandchildren were forced to jump from a second story window, and received injuries, the Sun reports.
