Mechanicsville, MD — A dog perished in a house fire in Mechanicsville on Tuesday afternoon but the other residents of the home were able to make it out without injury.
According to the State Fire Marshall’s Office, the fire started just after 2:30 p.m. in a one-story home on Grandiflora Court in Mechanicsville.
The home had working smoke detectors that activated when the fire broke out on the exterior rear deck of the home.
Thirty firefighters from the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department spent 35 minutes extinguishing the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The home was heavily damaged, sustaining an estimated $ 275,000 in damage to the structure and $100,000 to contents. The residents are being assisted by family and friends.
