Friday night there was a tragic double fatal accident on state Route 5 near Chingville Road. The accident involved two vehicles, a light –colored Hyundai Accent and a White Dodge van with a ladder rack on top. Family of the deceased have been notified.
Here are the details available at this time: On August 29, at approximately 11:27 p.m. a 2002 Hyundai Accent passenger vehicle, operated by Kevin Dale Wiersa Jr., 21 of Lexington Park, St. Mary’s County, was traveling northbound on Maryland state Route 5 in the area of Chingville Road. Wiersma’s vehicle crossed the center line into the southbound lane striking a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 van which was driven by Jose Wilfredo Castillo Molina, 47 of Arlington, Va.
Wiersma and front seat passenger Gregory John Allen, 21 also of Lexington Park, died on the scene as a result of injuries sustained during the collision.
Castillo Molina and three other occupants of his vehicle were all transported to area hospitals where they were treated for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team is currently conducting the investigation and alcohol is thought to be a contributing factor on the part of Wiersma.
