
BEL ALTON, Md. — A driver was injured and trapped Thursday after a Dodge Charger struck a utility pole near the main entrance to the Charles County Fairgrounds, bringing electrical wires down around the vehicle.
Firefighters and emergency medical personnel responded to the 8400 block of Fairground Road at approximately 1:55 p.m. Aug. 6, 2026.
The driver, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, was conscious and experiencing shoulder pain but was unable to exit the car. Firefighters conducted an extrication operation while crews dealt with downed and sparking electrical wires.
The driver was extricated at approximately 2:17 p.m. and transported by ambulance to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center.
Fairground Road was temporarily closed during the response. Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative personnel were called to secure the damaged utility equipment and downed wires.
Police are investigating the crash.
