On Sunday, May 9, at approximately 6:10 a.m., the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad responded to Fifth Street and Ridge View Drive in Owings for a reported automobile accident with fire.

When emergency units arrived at the scene, there was a single vehicle which for reasons unknown, the driver had lost control and struck a tree. Fire was showing from the engine compartment and the crash victim was still inside the vehicle.

The 28-year-old male was treated first at the scene and then transported to the landing zone to be transported by Trooper 7 State Police helicopter to PG Shock Trauma.
 
The rescue squad from North Beach handled both the treatment operation at the accident and the landing zone for the helicopter.
 
After finishing with landing zone, the North Beach unit was dispatched back to scene to handle the tree blocking the road. The tree removal process was delayed by the towing operation to remove the vehicle.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
