Michael David Hussey

Prince Frederick, MD – An Anne Arundel County man, who led police on a high speed chase and damaged several police vehicles during an incident last September, has been indicted in Calvert County Circuit Court. The 11-count indictment against Michael David Hussey, 59 of Odenton, was handed down earlier this month by a grand jury.

The indictment includes four counts each of first-degree assault—all felony charges—and malicious destruction of property.

Documents on file in circuit court indicated the Calvert County State’s Attorney’s Office filed a writ of habeas corpus to have Hussey transported from Spring Grove Hospital Center in Catonsville to Calvert County to face the charges. Hussey is also facing domestic assault charges in Anne Arundel County, court documents stated.

In a statement of probable cause, Dfc. Gott stated that on Sept. 11 around 10:52 a.m., he was alerted about a vehicle pursuit in St. Mary’s County that was headed northbound on Route 4 into Calvert County. Gott stated that the dispatch identified Hussey as the driver of the burgundy Hyundai Santa Fe that was being pursued and that “he possibly was armed with a gun.” Gott attempted to stop the Hyundai at Patuxent Point Parkway, however, the vehicle proceeded through the intersection at a high rate of speed.

Hussey also failed to stop for a red light at the Route 2/4 Rousby Hall Road intersection, causing motorists in the area to swerve their vehicles to avoid a collision. “Hussey could be seen smoking a cigarette and talking on his phone,” Gott stated in court documents.

Hussey further eluded capture at Route 2/4 and Ball Road, where police had step up spike strips. Four police vehicles were intentionally rammed as the Hyundai continued northbound. The execution of the precision immobilization technique or “PIT maneuver” caused Hussey’s vehicle to cross the median, into the southbound lane of Route 2/4 and finally into a wooded area where the Hyundai struck several small trees.

Hussey subsequently surrendered to police and was transported Calvert Memorial Hospital before being jailed at the Calvert County Detention Center.

A pretrial hearing for Hussey is tentatively scheduled for June 27. According to court documents, the defendant is being represented by Mary Katharine Fowler of the Office of the Public Defender.
