Prince Frederick, MD – You could call it a slam dunk. With absolutely no comment from the panel the Calvert County Planning Commission gave unanimous final approval to a site plan that is anticipated to result in the county’s second Dunkin Donuts location. The doughnut and coffee franchise’s Prince Frederick location will be on the same site as a three-story Holiday Inn. According to a planning commission memorandum, Dunkin Donuts at Holiday Inn Express will have Route 2/4 frontage but access will be restricted to an existing entrance off Merrimac Court. The new store will have a drive thru window.

The Prince Frederick Dunkin will be located within a 4,508-square foot commercials building. The donut shop will use 2,158 square feet of the building. There is no word at this time what business or businesses will occupy the other 2,350 square feet.
In a Planning Commission memorandum, administrator Carolyn Sunderland certified that all of the conditions of the preliminary approval granted last September have been met.

Dunkin’s only current location in Calvert is in the Lusby Town Center. The pending addition of a second location in the county comes at a time the doughnut and coffee chain is scaling back its expansion strategy. According to a late July story posted by CNN Money, Dunkin is expected to add from 380 to 450 new locations worldwide in the future. Originally, Dunkin was anticipating the addition of 585 franchise locations. “Most of the paring will be overseas,” the CNN Money story stated.
