EDGEWATER, Md. — A fatal motorcycle crash claimed the life of a 19-year-old man in Anne Arundel County on Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred on September 22, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m. on Solomon’s Island Road near Old South River Road South, just south of the South River Bridge in Edgewater.
According to the Anne Arundel County Police Department, a 2020 Yamaha motorcycle, operated by Daniel Joseph Helmly Jr., 19, of Lothian, Maryland, was traveling northbound on Solomon’s Island Road when it collided with a 2003 Ford Expedition making a left turn onto Old South River Road South.
Helmly was pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County Emergency Medical Services.
The driver of the Expedition, identified as a 52-year-old female from Rockville, Maryland, along with her passengers, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
The AACPD Traffic Safety Section is currently investigating the crash. Further details about the incident are pending as the investigation continues.
