LEONARDTOWN, Md. — Firefighters responded early Wednesday morning to a reported house fire in Leonardtown with initial concerns that people might be trapped inside.
At approximately 3:41 a.m. on March 11, 2026, emergency crews were dispatched to the 41000 block of Medleys Neck Road for a reported residential structure fire.
Chief 1A arrived on scene to find a one-story single-family home with light smoke showing from the structure. All occupants had safely exited the home prior to firefighters arriving, and Medleys Neck Road Command was established.

Engine 10 arrived shortly after and entered the home to begin fire suppression efforts. Firefighters encountered extreme hoarding conditions inside the residence, which created very limited visibility and made access more difficult.
Engine-Tanker 14 also responded to assist with overhaul operations and to provide water supply support.
Firefighters from Engine 10 quickly deployed a hose line and brought the fire under control. Primary and secondary searches of the home confirmed that no occupants remained inside.
Crews from multiple departments, including Stations 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 and Naval District Washington, operated at the scene for approximately two and a half hours before returning to service.
One occupant was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for evaluation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
