On Monday, October 10th, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office reports that Deputy Milton Pesante was patrolling in the area of Budds Creek Road in Mechanicsville when he observed a vehicle on the shoulder of the road with the driver’s side door open and its parking lights on.
Deputy Pesante identified the driver of the vehicle as Lee Philip Desmarais, age 18 years, of La Plata. Suspect Desmarais was found to be sleeping and unresponsive to loud commands given by Deputy Pesante.
An odor of alcoholic beverage was detected by Deputy Pesante during conversation with Desmarais when he was awoken. Desmarais was administered standardized field sobriety tests which he failed.
Desmarais was transported to the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office were he was charged with Driving Under the Influence. He is currently awaiting a Preliminary Inquiry Hearing.
