Elizabeth (Betty) Mary Wascavage, a longtime special education teacher in St. Maryโ€™s County, died Sept. 3, 2025, at Southern Maryland Hospice. She was 65.

Born Oct. 28, 1959, in Ansonia, Connecticut, she was the daughter of John and Katherine Finnucan. Betty graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a degree in education and later moved to St. Maryโ€™s County, where she began a 39-year career with the county school system. She was deeply proud of her work, helping shape the lives of countless students.

Her children remember her as a patient, loving mother who encouraged them in both academics and athletics. She rarely missed her sonsโ€™ games, often traveling to cheer them on, and made lifelong friends along the way. She was known for her wit and fun-loving spirit, enjoying time at the beach, Wild Women Weekends, and her Lighthouse Road Book Club.

Betty is survived by her partner, Henry Dosker of Piney Point; two sons, Joseph (Macon) of Easton, Maryland, and Andrew (Lauren) of Charleston, South Carolina; brothers Jack, Billy, Tom (Patty), and Kevin Finnucan, all of Ansonia, Connecticut; and two grandsons, Wye and Reece. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A celebration of life will be held at noon Oct. 13 at Clora Corner Farms, 28385 Flora Corner Road, Mechanicsville, Maryland.
