Fairlead Academy sent the following letter announcing major changes on April 12, 2024:
“Dear Fairlead Families,
We developed a model during the 2021-2022 school year for at-risk 9th grade students. Freshman, who previously attended classes on the Fairlead Academy campus, were returned to their home high schools where they received academic, social/emotional, and attendance support.
The students were incredibly successful, with approximately 93% of them earing enough credits to become sophomores at the end of their freshman year. We have continued to track those students and are pleased with how well they are performing. Data has shown that due to student success in their freshman year at their home schools, these students then want to remain in their home schools.
This has greatly impacted the full-time student enrollment in the Fairlead Academy which has declined in the past two years. As we begin the process for scheduling students currently enrolled in Fairlead Academy for the 2024-2025 school year, we are making you aware of a change.
The current Fairlead model will not be available as current 10th and 11th-grade students will be returning to their home high schools. We will work with counselors from each school to develop an appropriate schedule for the rising juniors and seniors. Support will be provided at the home high schools to ensure the transition is productive and meaningful.
We are excited about this change as there are so many opportunities for students at the comprehensive high schools. We appreciate the support you’ve provided to Fairlead Academy and are confident that this change will benefit our students. “
Respectfully,
Maureen C. Montgomery

First of all, I am very frustrated and disappointed about the change that is coming to Fairlead Academy, because there are some people that struggle in the real world with academic and communication skills. You have to understand that closing this school on our students will make them angry due to students succeeding at Fairlead. I realize that next year for my senior year I will become successful no matter what because I try the best I can.
I heard people at Moakley street got upwards of $40k in raises…
