PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A New Carrollton man was arrested after authorities say he provided a false name and obstructed a police investigation during a traffic stop in Calvert County, according to court records.
Fernando Euzman, 42, was charged following a traffic stop conducted the morning of Dec. 29 in the area of Maryland Route 4 and German Chapel Road in Prince Frederick.
According to charging documents, a detective with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office stopped a white Chevrolet work van for expired Maryland registration tags. The driver was identified as Victor Alejandro Gil Martinez. The passenger initially identified himself as Fernando Ventura and stated he did not have identification.
Investigators reported the passenger appeared apprehensive and provided information that could not be verified. While attempting to confirm his identity, the detective reviewed law enforcement databases and found records indicating the passenger’s true identity was Fernando Euzman. Authorities also discovered an active warrant issued through the Maryland State Police.
Court records state that after confirmation from the Calvert County Control Center and a state police supervisor, Euzman was taken into custody. Additional database checks later confirmed his identity and date of birth.
Euzman was charged with making a false statement to a peace officer and obstructing and hindering a police officer in the performance of official duties, both misdemeanors.
He was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center for processing and later released on his own recognizance the same day, court records show.
A trial is scheduled for Jan. 29, 2026, in Calvert District Court.
